Why I Founded M8 Solutions to Help the NHS Move Forward with Confidence

Tracy Scriven - M8 Solutions Founder and Lead Consultant - NHS Expert

Over the many years I’ve spent working with the NHS, one thing has remained constant: the pressure to deliver more for patients whilst navigating financial constraints, workforce challenges, and an increasingly complex digital landscape.

Technology has a vital role to play in addressing these challenges. But successful digital transformation is rarely about simply introducing new tools. It’s about having the right support, experience, and understanding to implement those tools in a way that genuinely works in practice.

That’s exactly why I founded M8 Solutions.

At M8 Solutions, we work alongside the NHS as a digital technology partner - helping organisations move forward with confidence, clarity, and integrity.

Having spent over three decades working within the NHS digital technology ecosystem, I’ve seen first-hand the challenges teams face when trying to balance innovation, operational delivery, and governance. Our goal is to combine that real-world understanding with deep technical expertise to help navigate complexity and unlock the full potential of modern technologies.

Today, we support the NHS across three core areas:

1. Cyber Security Maturity

Cyber security within healthcare has never been more critical. The NHS is responsible for highly sensitive data whilst simultaneously delivering life-critical services, making it an increasingly attractive target for cyber threats.

At M8 Solutions, we focus on strengthening cyber security maturity through practical, real-world guidance. Rather than focusing purely on compliance, we work with teams to build a resilient and proactive cyber security culture.

Through our CISO-as-a Service (CISOaaS) managed service, we provide access to experienced cyber security leadership and strategic oversight. In many cases, we act as an extension of existing teams - delivering enterprise-level cyber leadership without the cost, risk, or delay of recruiting a permanent CISO.

The goal is not simply to meet requirements, but to build true resilience and strengthen the ability to respond to evolving threats.

2. Automation and AI Adoption

The NHS workforce continues to face immense pressure, with many teams spending valuable time on administrative processes that could be automated.

Automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) present a significant opportunity to relieve that pressure.

At M8 Solutions, we have extensive experience delivering Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and intelligent automation (IA) solutions across NHS environments. These digital workers can carry out repetitive tasks quickly and accurately, allowing staff to focus on higher-value activities.

In some cases, our work has extended into operational environments such as 999 call handling, demonstrating the real-world impact automation can have when implemented responsibly and with a clear understanding of workflows.

The focus is not simply on introducing new technology, but on building confidence in its use - ensuring solutions are sustainable, scalable, and aligned with clinical and operational priorities.

A natural next step in this journey is the emergence of AI agents. We are now seeing early adoption of AI-driven assistants that support knowledge retrieval, triage, documentation, and operational insight.

When combined with automation, these agents have the potential to act as intelligent digital colleagues - not just performing tasks, but interpreting information, surfacing insights, and supporting decision-making in real time.

The opportunity is significant, but it must be approached responsibly, with strong governance, data security, and clinical oversight.

Our role is to help the NHS explore these capabilities safely and pragmatically, ensuring they enhance existing workflows and deliver meaningful operational impact.

3. Microsoft Ecosystem Transformation

Microsoft technologies now sit at the heart of many NHS digital environments. From Azure cloud infrastructure and the Power Platform to Microsoft 365 and emerging AI capabilities, the ecosystem provides powerful tools to modernise services and improve collaboration.

However, unlocking their full value requires the right expertise, governance, and strategic planning.

At M8 Solutions, we support the NHS in maximising Microsoft investments through implementation, advisory, and structured transformation programmes. This includes Azure, Power Platform, automation, and the responsible adoption of AI tools such as Copilot.

Our approach is always to work alongside teams to ensure technology delivers real operational value.

Delivering Technicity with Integrity

At the heart of M8 Solutions is a simple philosophy: delivering technicity with integrity.

Successful partnerships are built on trust, honesty, and a genuine commitment to supporting the teams we work with.

As a small business working closely with the NHS across the UK, we remain agile, responsive, and deeply connected to those we support.

Our focus has never been simply to deliver technology projects. It is to build long-term relationships and help the NHS move forward with confidence as digital transformation continues to evolve.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does M8 Solutions typically support the NHS?
We work as a digital technology partner, often acting as an extension of internal teams. This can include strategic leadership (such as CISOaaS), delivery support, or helping organisations move forward with specific priorities across Cyber Security, Automation, AI, and Microsoft technologies.

Do you provide ongoing support or just project-based work?
Both. Many of the NHS organisations we support work with us on an ongoing basis, where we provide consistent, flexible support aligned to their priorities, capacity, and internal structure.

How do you ensure your approach aligns with NHS environments?

Our approach is shaped by decades of experience working within the NHS. We focus on practical delivery, governance, and real-world constraints - ensuring everything we do is aligned with operational, clinical, and regulatory expectations.

Where do organisations typically start when working with M8 Solutions?

This varies depending on priorities. Some organisations start with a specific need, such as a Cyber Security review or Automation opportunity, while others begin with a broader conversation around strategy, capacity, or transformation goals.
